Anne Militello’s Cyber/Saber lights up a Santa Monica street
If last month you happened to go by the Third Street Promenade in Santa Monica, California, and noticed that the colorful lighting installation in the storefront window was worthy of a concert at the Hollywood Bowl or a major public light art installation, there was a reason. It was designed and programmed under the direction of world-famous lighting designer Anne Militello.
To say that Militello has been influential for decades doesn’t quite do her justice. She has forged a role as a toptier lighting designer through her work lighting concert stages, theatre stages, and architecture, as well as training new generations. Her latest project is an installation that sits at the intersection of entertainment lighting, fine art, architecture, and technology.
