IF I WERE TO MAKE A LIST of phone calls I don’t want to receive first thing in the morning, at the top of that list would probably be a call from a festival promoter telling me that the electrical inspector is looking for me. That’s what happened recently while I was on my way to work.
I’ve been in the entertainment lighting industry since 1986 and I’ve worked on permanent installations in nightclubs, concert tours, television and film, theatre, and corporate events, mostly in the United States. In all that time and all those locations, very seldom have I had to deal with electrical inspectors. They just don’t often come around except in permanent installations, because new buildings are required to pass an electrical inspection before they are issued a certificate of occupancy. Not so in concert tours, television, film, and theatre.
