If you were live event production in the 2000s, then you witnessed, and may have taken part in, the Great Stage Lighting Transition from incandescent and arc lamps to LED fixtures. The promise back then was that, because LEDs were more efficient than tungsten lamps, we would use less power on our shows. That was true for a little while. Then we went from bands like AC/ DC and Van Halen touring with hundreds of 1000-watt PAR cans to bands like U2 and the Rolling Stones touring with hundreds of moving lights. The scale of lighting rigs and stages increased exponentially, and we went from tours that consume kilowatts to tours that consume megawatts....
