It used to be that when you wanted to program a lighting console, you had to set up the lighting system before you could begin. Then along came previsualization software, and it was a game-changer. It allowed you to build a virtual stage with lighting so you could almost completely pre-program a show before you ever set foot on stage. Wouldn’t it be great if there were a similar way to set up a network? It turns out, there is.

Luminex, the manufacturer of networking hardware including network switches and nodes used in live event production and AV networks, has a couple of Araneo apps, including Araneo GigaCore and the new Araneo Studio V1.0, designed to let you set up, configure, troubleshoot, and monitor networks. When Araneo GigaCore is in Project mode, it allows you to configure a network virtually without physically connecting the hardware.
It’s almost like pre-viz for networking....
