WHETHER THEY ARE POWERING lighting rigs, sound systems, video displays, or back-of-house infrastructure, portable power generators enable productions to take place in remote locations, outdoor venues, or facilities without adequate grid power. But as with all combustion-powered equipment, generators contribute to air pollution, negatively impact people’s health, and effect global climate change. Over the past two decades, U.S. federal emissions regulations have dramatically reshaped how portable diesel and gasoline generators are designed, manufactured, and deployed, which directly impacts live event and motion picture productions that rely on them.
